01 / Profile

Broad, recognised distance university with practical orientation.

Euro-FH is one of Germany's best-known private distance universities. State-recognised, with more than 9,000 students and a portfolio focused on economics, education and psychology.

Operator is the Klett Group, which also runs Wilhelm Büchner University and the sister institution ILS. Euro-FH was founded in 2003. According to the forsa 2025 study it is among the most recognised private distance universities, with particularly high awareness in the 20- to 50-year-old bracket.

Recognition runs on the standard rails. ZFU licence, FIBAA accreditation, positive review by the Council of Science and Humanities and the Top Distance University 2026 seal. The recommendation rate on fernstudiumcheck.de is 98 percent. On the innovation side KILEA, the AI learning companion, won the Innovation Silver Award in 2025.

Students choose between classical distance study (asynchronous) and online evening study (live webinars). Exams are taken online or at one of ten exam centres in Germany, with monthly dates. This makes exam organisation predictable, especially for working professionals.

Euro-FH study models and fees

For its Bachelor and Master distance programmes, Euro-FH offers three study and payment models: Sprint, Standard and Comfort. They differ in study period and payment plan, not in the degree you earn.

Sprint The fast variant with a shorter standard study period: 36 months for a Bachelor, 12, 18 or 24 months for a Master depending on the programme. Euro-FH plans around 20 to 25 study hours a week. According to Euro-FH, German BAföG funding is possible in this variant. A fit if you can set aside a lot of time each week.
Standard The part-time variant alongside work or family: 48 months for a Bachelor, 16, 24 or 32 months for a Master depending on the programme. Study period and payment period are the same length. Euro-FH plans around 15 to 20 study hours a week. Next to a full-time job this is usually the more realistic frame.
Comfort The same study period as Standard, but an extended payment plan: the fees are spread over more monthly instalments than the programme has months. A one-off completion fee is due with the last instalment, the success bonus does not apply, and you cannot switch to Sprint.
Switching You can switch once between Sprint and Standard, as long as you are within the standard study period and have not yet registered your thesis.
Payment Monthly in equal instalments, as an annual advance payment or as a one-off advance payment for the whole programme. Paying in advance earns money back: a fixed amount after each study year for the annual option, a percentage of the tuition at graduation for the one-off option.
Success bonus If you finish within your chosen standard study period, Euro-FH refunds your last monthly instalment. This applies to Sprint and Standard, not to Comfort, not after a switch of variant and not to the online evening study.
More time If you need longer, the standard study period is extended automatically by up to 50 percent without extra tuition. This applies in all three models.
Included Study materials and the Euro-FH online campus. According to the terms and conditions there are no extra fees for exams or thesis supervision. Recognised prior learning shortens the programme and earns a credit on your fees.
Discounts and deferral Discounts exist for couples studying together, during parental leave and for alumni, among others. They cannot be combined. In case of long illness or unemployment you can defer monthly fees for up to six months.
Prepaid, unlimited, cashback? Euro-FH does not list study models under these names on its website or in its terms and conditions (as of 15.09.2026). The closest equivalents are the advance payment options, the refunds from advance payment and the success bonus, and the fee-free extension of up to 50 percent. The website and terms do not mention a fee-free extension beyond 50 percent. Which model fits your weekly time budget, I work out with you in the first call.

05 Frequently asked

FAQ on Euro-FH

What you should know before applying.

Status and recognition

Is Euro-FH state-recognised?

Yes. Europäische Fernhochschule Hamburg is state-recognised, ZFU-licensed, FIBAA-accredited and positively reviewed by the German Council of Science and Humanities. It carries the Top Distance University 2026 seal and ranks among Germany's most recognised private distance universities according to the forsa 2025 study.

How recognised is a Euro-FH degree?

A Bachelor or Master from Euro-FH is a state-recognised university degree. The university is state-recognised by the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, institutionally accredited by the German Council of Science and Humanities, and also system-accredited, and its distance programmes are state-licensed. According to Euro-FH, its degrees are equivalent to those of public universities of applied sciences. Whether a degree is recognised for a doctorate, a public-sector career or in Austria and Switzerland is decided case by case by the body in question. I clarify this with you before you enrol.

Studies and admission

Which areas does Euro-FH cover?

Focus areas are economics, education and psychology. The portfolio includes more than 60 Bachelor and Master programmes, including a General Management MBA and several psychology specialisations.

Can I trial Euro-FH for four weeks free of charge?

Yes. Euro-FH offers a four-week free trial study. During this time you have access to the online campus and study materials. If it does not fit, you exit without obligation.

What is the difference between distance study and online evening study?

The classical distance study is asynchronous, you organise your own schedule. The online evening study runs with fixed live webinars in the evening within a cohort. Two fixed start dates per year, on 15 March and 15 September. Both formats are designed to run alongside work.

Can I study at Euro-FH without a high-school diploma?

Yes. Vocationally qualified candidates with a Master craftsman, Fachwirt or comparable qualification can study without a high-school diploma. For master programmes there is also the Master Entry Program for experienced professionals without a classical first degree.

What does the study cost?

Tuition starts depending on programme at around 225 euros per month. With recognition of prior learning and a free extension of up to 50 percent of the standard study period the financial pressure decreases. Time-limited discount campaigns come on top, and their name and amount change.

Which study models does Euro-FH offer?

Three: Sprint, Standard and Comfort. Sprint is the fast variant with a shorter standard study period, 36 months for a Bachelor. Standard is the part-time variant, 48 months for a Bachelor. Comfort has the same study period as Standard but spreads the tuition over an extended payment plan. You can pay monthly, annually in advance or once in advance for the whole programme.

Where can I write exams?

Online or in ten exam centres in Germany. There are monthly exam dates, you choose location and time flexibly. This makes exam organisation predictable, especially for working professionals.
